A Woman's Quest

Personally I think a Woman's Quest (In terms of beauty) is to find that perfect mascara. One that ticks all the boxes. I found my perfect mascara in Soap & Glory's HD Thick & Fast, a few people who commented on that post saying that the price wasn't appealing to them but today I bring you THREE mascara's under £6 RRP which all have different promises to suit your lash needs.

Bargain mascara in years gone just used to come in boring black tubes with just bog standard brushes with the only promise to make your eyelashes look darker, you could really tell it was a cheap mascara back then, but these days cheap doesn't mean it has to look it too. The 3 Mascaras I bring you today are:

  • Collection Big Fake Ultimate - £5.99 RRP or £3.98 in ASDA
  • W7 Showing Out - £4.99 RRP or £2.80 on Xtras.co.uk
  • Collection Super Size Fat Lash Mascara - £2.99 RRP or £2.98 in ASDA
As you can see these tubes look far from boring and cheap. I love the red of the Big Fake Ultimate, the shape is definitely a dupe of Maybelline's mascara tubes. The W7 is obviously a dupe of Rimmel's Bright Orange Scandaleyes and the Super Size well I love the Hot Pink and the curve of the tube. Let's be honest, any one of these would look perfect in our make-up bags.

Onto the brushes, as I said before, years ago a cheap mascara would have a simple brush, nothing special it would just make your eyelashes look a bit darker and a little thicker. These days even cheaper mascaras have different style of brushes which offer different promises to give to your lashes.

Pre-Mascara'd Lashes

Big Fake Ultimate is a fake lash effect mascara which promises to triple your lash volume and length. The brush on it is very much similar to Urban Decay's Big Fatty mascara. It's long and wide with extra fibres so it can catch every lash. It has given my lashes noticeable length and width. I'm not 100% convinced by the Fake Lash promise as it didn't fan my lashes out as much as falsies would but this would be a good night time mascara for meals out or going the cinema. My natural lashes cross over quite a lot anyway so I think this may be something you may want to try yourself.  - Rating 6.5/10

W7's Showing Out has plastic combs with a globe tip which gets right into the corners of your lashes which catches even the smallest lashes. It's also really wide so will give length. Now this has gave me extreme volume in my lashes and because of the plastic combs has fanned out my lashes. The only flaw is the formula is a little thick. This is definitely my favourite out of the 3 which is also the cheapest so that's a big tick on the boxes.  - Rating 8.5/10

Super Size Fat Lash Mascara is a thinner brush with a 180 curve in it which is good for curl to the lash and added volume and length. This is a perfect day to day mascara. It didn't give me "Super-Size" lashes but did give me a good little curl and some length. I would definitely wear this day to day and for the price it's great. - Rating 7/10

So there you have it, 3 mascaras that aren't too harsh on your purse strings and give you results that you would see in more expensive mascaras.

    1. I did it because I knew how much people were saying how good the S&G one looked but it was a bit too pricey.

:) Let us know of any new posts on your blog xx

  2. I don't like the chunky plastic kind of mascara wands, I prefer smaller wands with a bit of a curve. Lancome Hypnose is my favourite xx

    1. Lancome is good but it wouldn't fit with this post with it being so pricey. But have heard rave reviews about it. I don't mind the chunky wands because I have such wide eyes so they help.

      Will comment back :)

  6. Might try the Soap & Glory. I have the Benefit They're Real and find it to be rather overrated. I have deep set eyes and I find the mascara smudges quite easily.

  12. My Mum was looking at the W7 products a few weeks ago, when we were out shopping. They were 89p each in our local Boyes store. She was undecided as they were so cheap, would they be any good? A week later, I saw them in Next for £2/£3 ish and told her so she went straight out for her 89p bargains!

It's strange that some people don't think budget products can be any good, I refuse to pay more than £4 for a mascara. The majority are from Avon, as it's convenient given I'm at work most of the time the shops are open. I'll definitely be picking up one of these W7 ones now though. Thanks for the review x
